Who is eligible for a .BANK domain?

To register a .BANK domain, your organization must be eligible and the domain name(s) you select must correspond to your organization’s legal name or branding (e.g., trademark, trade name, service mark). The Policies linked below provide the complete eligibility requirements.

Organization (Registrant) Eligibility

To become a .BANK Registrant, your organization must be one of the following government regulated entities:

1. Retail bank
2. Savings association
3. National bank
4. Bank holding or parent companies

Other eligible organizations include:

1. Associations or groups of associations whose membership is primarily comprised of the above regulated entities
2. Government regulators of retail banks, savings associations, national banks or organizations whose members are primarily comprised of such government regulators (if approved by the fTLD Board)

fTLD Registry will certify that the holder meets the eligibility requirements for .BANK domains.

.BANK can be registered without DNS, but if you would like to use it, you must use DNSSEC and use a domain .BANK as host. (DNSSEC) ensures that Internet users are landing on holder's actual websites and not being misdirected to other malicious ones. The registry will require that all domain levels utilize DNSSEC for domains that resolve on the Internet.

What are the Security Requirements in .BANK?

-Mandatory Verification of Charter/Licensure for Regulated Entities ensures that only legitimate members of the global banking community are awarded domain names.

-Mandatory Re-verification of Registration Data is performed annually, or upon changes to registration information (i.e., Registrant Name, Registrant Email, and/or Registrant Organization fields).

-Email Authentication to mitigate spoofing, phishing and other malicious activities propagated through emails to unsuspecting users. For domains intended to send emails registration applicants must publish a Sender Policy Framework (SPF).

-Multi-Factor Authentication to ensure that any change to registration data is made only by authorized users of the registered entity.

-Enhanced Encryption to ensure security of communication over the Internet to prevent eavesdropping, data tampering, etc.

-Prohibition of Proxy/Privacy Registration Services to ensure full disclosure of domain registration information so bad actors cannot hide.
